Family Sponsorship
Family reunification is the process of bringing family members together in Canada. The Canadian government values the importance of families being together and has established programs to allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor certain family members to come to Canada.
To be eligible to sponsor your family members, you must:
• be at least 18 years old
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
• be able to demonstrate that you have the financial means to support your family members once they arrive in Canada
• not be in prison
• not have a criminal record
• not be bankrupt
• not owe money to the government in relation to a previous sponsorship undertaking
• not have previously sponsored a family member who received social assistance
If you meet these eligibility requirements, you can apply to sponsor your family members by completing the sponsorship application and submitting it to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The application process can be complex and may take several months or even years to complete.
It's important to note that there are annual caps on the number of applications that can be accepted for the Family Class sponsorship program. This means that it may not be possible to sponsor your family members immediately, even if you are otherwise eligible to do so.
