Electronic Travel Authorization
An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an electronic document that allows citizens of certain countries to travel to Canada by air. It is a requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals who are traveling to Canada for business or tourism purposes.
To be eligible for an eTA, you must:
1. Be a citizen of a country that is eligible for the eTA program
2. Have a valid passport from an eTA-eligible country
3. Be traveling to Canada by air
4. Have a return ticket or the means to purchase one
5. Not have a criminal record
To apply for an eTA, you will need to complete an online application form and pay a processing fee. You will need to provide your personal information, such as your name, date of birth, and passport details, as well as your travel plans in Canada.
If your application is approved, you will receive an eTA via email. You will need to present this document, along with your passport, when you check in for your flight to Canada. Your eTA will be linked to your passport and will be valid for up to five years, or until the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.
It's important to note that an eTA does not guarantee entry to Canada. You may still be refused entry if you do not meet the requirements for entry to Canada, or if you have a criminal record or other inadmissibility issues.
